The use of a discrimination-training procedure to teach mand variability to children with autism.

We investigated the effects of a script-fading and discrimination-training procedure on mand variability in preschoolers with autism. Participants were taught to vary their vocal mands in the presence of written scripts, a green placemat, and a lag schedule of reinforcement. They were also taught to engage in repetitive mands in the presence of the same written scripts and a red placemat. When ...

Manipulation of motivating operations and use of a script-fading procedure to teach mands for location to children with language delays.

The effects of contriving motivating operations (MOs) and script fading on the acquisition of the mand "Where's [object]?" were evaluated in 2 boys with language delays. During each session, trials were alternated in which high-preference items were present (abolishing operation [AO] trials) or missing (establishing operation [EO] trials) from their typical locations. Both participants learned ...

Evaluating Equivalent Damping and Response Modification Factors of Frames Equipped by Pall Friction Dampers

A study on the evaluating equivalent damping and response modification factors of frames equipped by Pall Friction Dampers is presented. To do so, buildings with various stories were considered. Nonlinear and linear dynamic time history analysis has been performed to evaluate equivalent damping for Pall Friction Dampers. Ground motions with various frequency characteristics scaled with Iranian ...

Teaching "How?" mand-for-information frames to children with autism.

The current study extends the mand-for-information literature by examining a method to teach mand-for-information frames, targeting 2 frames for the "How?" mand ("How do I?" and "How many?"). Using separate behavior chains to target the 2 frames, we taught 3 children with autism to emit mands for information with 1 behavior chain and assessed generalization with the remaining behavior chains. B...

The Effect of Easy-Going Steel on KBF's Seismic Behavior

The knee bracing steel frame (KBF) is a new type of energy dissipating frame which enjoys exceptional ductility and lateral stiffness. Rather than the beam-column joint, one end of the diagonal brace in KBF is attached to the knee element. Indeed, the knee element as a hysteretic damper is designed and detailed to behave like a structural fuse by sustaining controlled inelastic deformations as ...
